Senior Companion Care in Campbelltown

How Legacy Care Turns Out to Be the Best Disability Support Services in Sydney

Legacy Care Solutions is an NDIS registered provider of disability support services in New South Wales, and one of the best you can find. Why do we say so? There are plenty of reasons – so we would like to start by explaining everything from the beginning.

What Is Disability?

According to the Disability Services Act of 1993, any condition that restricts the daily activities of an individual is considered a disability. A disability:

  • Can be temporary or permanent
  • Can be chronic or sporadic in nature
  • Can be a physical, psychiatric, intellectual, sensory, neurological, or cognitive impairment or a combination of some of them
  • Causes significantly decreased ability of the person to communicate, interact socially, learn, be mobile, and may necessitate support services for a continued time.

When people with disability are provided with the right disability support services and other aids, they may be able to manage or even overcome many of the restrictions they experience.

What Are the Different Types of Disability?

As stated above, a disability may be physical, psychiatric, intellectual, sensory, neurological, or cognitive in nature, but several individuals have multiple disabilities in combination. Physical disabilities are the most common type of disability, followed by sensory and intellectual disabilities. Disorders of the respiratory, circulatory, nervous, and musculoskeletal systems are the most common manifestations of physical disability. Vision and hearing impairments are sensory disabilities.

Cognitive and neurological disabilities are usually acquired disabilities, caused by trauma, or illnesses like multiple sclerosis, myasthenia gravis, and so on. Difficulties with communication, learning, memory, thought processes, logic, judgements, solving problems, and so on, are intellectual disabilities; it may be caused by any of several reasons, and sometimes the underlying cause is not known or not definable. Psychiatric disorders like anxiety, depression, bipolar disease, phobias, etc. can also cause disability.
